TAF trains (High Capacity Trains) consist of two locomotives and of two rail cars in between. They are double decked and have a body made of light welded alloy. These train configurations have been specifically designed for local transportation and have a capacity of 841 passengers (469 seated and 372 standing). Twenty-seven TAF trains became operational between 1998 and 2002, thus renewing LeNord’s fleet by 30%. Four units are used for the Malpensa Express airport connection. The introduction of these trains testify to LeNord’s commitment and attention to passengers’ comfort: all TAF trains are in fact equipped with air conditioning, two toilets (one of which for disabled passengers), audio messages and light displays when the train is arriving at the station, comfortable seats and low noise level.
