The Novate Milanese workshop plays a fundamental role among the activities conducted by LeNORD. Every day, in Novate 220 workers maintain and clean trains and rail cars. LeNORD invests about 10 million euros per year in order to keep the fleet’s safety and propriety .

Maintenance

Every day, the 90 trains of the Milan branch travel for hundreds of kilometres, transporting more than 150 thousand passengers. As a result, they need to be accurately and constantly maintained. In Novate, according to a fixed schedule or a certain amount of kilometres travelled, locomotives and rail cars undergo different types of servicing such as a “check up” to verify the proper functioning of components and safety systems and a “major service” where the rolling stock is completely disassembled, each part controlled and finally reassembled. LeNORD invests 7.5 million euros per year on maintenance.

Cleaning

Cleaning is indispensable to provide a comfortable service to users. To this end, LeNORD invests a great amount of time and resources on this activity ( about 2.5 million euros per year). In addition to cleaning and keeping high train safety and propriety standards, the Company invests a large amount of resources to repair the damage caused by growing vandalism. This is confirmed by the recent data on this phenomenon: 13 thousand seats replaced every year, 10 thousand square meters of graffiti removed every month and five trains completely washed every day. Furthermore, in the last few years, LeNORD has invested 1.3 million euros in order to “wrap” the rolling stock, that is to cover it with a thin impermeable film that makes it easy to remove paint and sprays.
